WBEZ CHICAGO GEARS UP FOR #GIVINGTUESDAY AND ‘GIVE ONE, FEED ONE’
Initiatives encourage philanthropic giving during holiday season
On #GivingTuesday, Nov. 29, WBEZ will join hundreds of Illinois nonprofits for the #ILGive campaign, a day-long event when people are encouraged to give back to community organizations by donating, volunteering or starting a fundraising campaign. This year, organizations participating in #ILGive have a goal of raising a collective $9 million that will go back to nonprofits across the state.
#ILGive is part of the global #GivingTuesday movement, which is fueled by the power of collaboration and social media. Since its inception in 2012, participation in #GivingTuesday has grown to more than 30,000 nonprofits, businesses and cultural institutions in over 60 countries.
Also on #GivingTuesday, from 9 a.m. to noon, the Coleman Foundationwill generously match all donations dollar for dollar (up to $10,000) from first time donors to WBEZ.
Then on Friday, Dec. 2, WBEZ is partnering with the Greater Chicago Food Depository for “Give One, Feed One,” or #GOFO, an initiative during WBEZ’s December fundraising campaign when every donation made to the station will also provide at least five meals for a Chicagoan in need. The larger the donation to WBEZ, the more meals given in the donor’s honor. Food Depository volunteers will make personal thank-you calls to donors who have generously given to WBEZ.
The day before #GOFO, WBEZ staff members will volunteer at the Greater Chicago Food Depository’s food drive, handing out empty shopping bags and encouraging people to fill them with non-perishable food items and return the bags the next day. The food will then be delivered to Chicagoans in need.
“#GOFO and #ILGive are initiatives thatunify the nonprofit community and allow us to join together to encourage support for organizations that benefit residents across our state,” said Kassie Stephenson, Vice President of Membership and Marketing for WBEZ Chicago. “We want everyone to know how grateful we are for every donation made to WBEZ and all nonprofits during the holiday giving season.”
